Parents and Community
Holt Primary School values the many and varied ways parents and other community members contribute to our school. Outlined below are some of the examples of the great work that our valued volunteers do. If you would like to become involved with the school please do not hesitate to contact the school's front office (02) 6205 7722.
Canteen
We have a canteen service operating five days a week. This is due to the efforts of our wonderful canteen manageress and a small group of parents and grandparents who give up their time to help out. The canteen would love to hear from anybody who can spare a few hours a month to help out. Please contact Wendy Maney through the school on (02) 6205 7722 if you are able to help.
Banking
Student banking is currently held on Wednesdays. The student banking program is a great opportunity to help encourage students to develop regular savings habits. The school also receives a small commission for each new account opened and for each deposit over $5.00 that is made through student banking. If you are able to help out on Wednesday mornings can you please contact Keren Williams through the front office (02) 6205 7755.
P&C
The school's Parents' and Citizen's (P&C) Association is a great way to help support your child's school as well as an opportunity to meet and make new friends. The P&C meets once a month in a relaxed atmosphere to discuss a range of issues concerning the school, parents and the community. The school principal attends the meetings and gives a report on the various happenings around the school and the system. These reports are a good way to stay informed about any current events and issues concerning both the school and its students. The P&C also work hard to raise funds that are used to purchase valuable educational resources for the school. Recently the P&C purchased a new video camera, scanners for each Interactive White Board, library books and other educational resources. We would welcome some new faces at the monthly P&C meetings. The meeting dates are advertised in the school newsletter.
Holt School Board
The School Board is the body which has legal responsibility for overall school policy, curriculum and finances. School Board members, teachers and parents, are elected for a two-year term. Our school’s Board is also fortunate in having a Community Representative, the Rev. Nick Speyer from St James Anglican Church.
Membership entails attendance at monthly meetings.
The membership of the 2008 Holt Primary School Board is:
| Mrs Anja Livingston | School Board Chair |
| Mrs Kristie Gurney | Teacher Representative |
| Mrs Karen Mansfield | Parent Representative |
| Rev. Nick Speyer | Community Representative |
| Mrs Linda Baird | Executive Officer |
Elections for parent and teacher representatives are held each year. Early in the year the school’s newsletter ('Holt Connection’) contains information about how many teacher and parent representatives are required for the Board and the details of the election process.
Nominations must be in writing, signed by two persons (in addition to the candidate) each of whom is eligible to vote in the election.
To be eligible to be a parent representative of the School Board, or to vote in the election, a person must be:
• a parent/carer of a student at the school; or
• a member of the P&C Association of the school.
Nominations are returned to the P&C’s Returning Officer.
If there is more than one nominee for each position, nominees will be invited to submit a short statement to introduce themselves and outline their interest in serving on the School Board.
Nomination forms can be obtained at the school’s front office. If you are interested in serving on the Holt Primary School Board or if you would like further information, you are welcome to contact the current Board members whose names appear on the front page of the ‘Holt Connection’.
Classrooms
Teachers are always keen to hear from parents and others who can spare some time to help out in the classroom. In the past volunteers have helped change readers, listened to students read, assisted during art lessons, writing lessons etc. It is always beneficial to have parents in the school working with students and helping them directly.
